Peloid Therapy (Peloidotherapy)
Therapies
Also: peloidotherapy, peloid therapy, mud therapy, Schlammtherapie
The therapeutic application of any peloid (mud, peat, clay, volcanic sediment) to the body. A broader term than Moortherapie (which is peat-specific) or fango therapy (which is clay-specific).
Methods
- Immersion baths (full or partial body)
- Localized packs and wraps
- Poultices and compresses
- Combined with thermal water (balneo-peloidotherapy)
Evidence Base
Multiple systematic reviews and RCTs support peloid therapy for osteoarthritis, rheumatic conditions, and chronic pain. Evidence is strongest for knee osteoarthritis (multiple RCTs, meta-analyses). Dermatological evidence is growing but less extensive.
