The German medical discipline of treating patients with peat (Moor/Torf). Moortherapie is a recognized branch of physical medicine in Germany and Austria, covered by statutory health insurance when prescribed by a physician.
Methods
- Moorbad (moor bath) — Full or partial immersion in heated peat suspension
- Moorpackung (moor pack) — Localized application of heated peat paste
- Moorumschlag (moor compress) — Peat-soaked cloth applied to body
Medical Recognition
Moortherapie has been practiced for over 200 years in German-speaking countries. It is prescribed primarily for rheumatic/musculoskeletal conditions but also for gynecological, dermatological, and neurological indications. Treatment courses (Kur) typically last 3-4 weeks at designated spa towns (Kurorte).
