About
This is a medical rehabilitation center rather than a tourist-facing spa. It draws peat from the Chuklyovo Blato swamp near the village of Baykal — Bulgaria’s only officially approved peat deposit for medical use — and offers it alongside underwater gymnastics and massage, healing showers, kinesitherapy, and paraffin therapy.
About the Treatments
Kyustendil Rehabilitation Center (SBR-NK) in Kyustendil, Bulgaria offers mud baths, part of its medical rehabilitation program.
Peat from Bulgaria is mainly lowland fen peat (therapeutic/balneological). Treatments like these are sometimes called peat mud pack, most often explored for joint inflammation (osteoarthritis, rheumatic conditions), muscle pain and tension, psoriasis, and back pain (chronic low back pain). See our evidence library for the studies.
