Kyustendil Rehabilitation Center (SBR-NK)

This is a medical rehabilitation center rather than a tourist-facing spa. It draws peat from the Chuklyovo Blato swamp near the village of Baykal — Bulgaria’s only officially approved peat deposit for medical use — and offers it alongside underwater gymnastics and massage, healing showers, kinesitherapy, and paraffin therapy.

Peat from Bulgaria is mainly lowland fen peat (therapeutic/balneological). Treatments like these are sometimes called peat mud pack, most often explored for joint inflammation (osteoarthritis, rheumatic conditions), muscle pain and tension, psoriasis, and back pain (chronic low back pain).
