Jaunķemeri

Jaunķemeri (Kūrorta rehabilitācijas centrs “Jaunķemeri”) is Latvia’s largest private inpatient medical facility. It draws its therapeutic mud from a peat bog established in the Slokas Swamp in 1981, using around 40 tons of mud a month across its treatments. After use, the mud is transferred to a dedicated regeneration field rather than discarded — the facility describes itself as the only one in the Baltic states doing this.

Peat from Latvia is mainly sphagnum peat (raised bog) and fen peat. Treatments like these are sometimes called peat mud pack and peat body wraps, most often explored for joint inflammation (osteoarthritis, rheumatic conditions), muscle pain and tension, psoriasis, and back pain (chronic low back pain).
