Peat Soap / Cleansing Bar

Therapies
Also known as: peat soap, moor soap, peat body wash
Method: topical
Duration: 1–3 minutes contact time
Frequency: Daily
Temperature: Room temperature to warm
Preparation: Cold-process or melt-and-pour soap with peat extract, peat paste, or humic/fulvic acid

Peat soap is a whole-body cleansing product incorporating peat extract or paste. Available as bar soap or liquid body wash. The simplest and most widely available peat cosmetic product in many markets. Short contact time limits therapeutic effect compared to leave-on products, but daily use provides consistent low-level exposure to peat bioactives.

Formulation Considerations

Conventional cold-process soap is alkaline (pH 9–10), which negates peat’s pH advantage. Syndet (synthetic detergent) bars or liquid formulations can maintain a skin-friendly pH. Peat’s natural color gives the soap a distinctive dark appearance that can be a marketing feature.
