Marine Mud
Spa & Balneology Terms
Also: marine mud, sea mud, Dead Sea mud, Black Sea mud
Sediment from sea or salt-lake bottoms, used therapeutically primarily in the Dead Sea region, Black Sea coast, and Mediterranean. Rich in minerals (magnesium, calcium, potassium, bromide) but generally lower in organic humic substances than peat.
Dead Sea Mud
The most studied marine mud. High mineral content (up to 40% minerals) gives it distinct properties. Clinical evidence exists for psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and rheumatic conditions — but the mechanism is primarily mineral-based rather than humic-substance-based.
