About

Dobrna is Slovenia’s oldest working thermal spa, established in 1403. It is one of a small number of Slovenian resorts officially recognized by the country’s Ministry of Health as having three natural healing factors: thermal water, fango, and šota (peat). The šota used in treatment is roughly 90% water and 10% decomposed plant material, transferring heat to tissue slowly through its humic acid content.

About the Treatments

Terme Dobrna in Dobrna, Slovenia offers peat baths, peat body treatments, and thermal baths, part of its medical and wellness program.

Treatments like these are sometimes called peat balneotherapy, most often explored for psoriasis, back pain (chronic low back pain), joint inflammation (osteoarthritis, rheumatic conditions), and eczema (atopic dermatitis). See our evidence library for the studies.
