Key Findings
- Peloid therapy showed significant improvement in WOMAC pain and function scores vs. control
- Effects sustained at 3-month follow-up
- Thermal and chemical properties of peloid contributed to therapeutic effect
Randomized controlled trial comparing peloid (peat/mud) therapy to hot pack therapy for knee osteoarthritis. 60 patients randomized to peloid or control group, treated daily for 2 weeks. Peloid group showed significantly greater improvement in WOMAC pain, stiffness, and function scores. Effects were maintained at 3-month follow-up, suggesting sustained benefit beyond the thermal component alone. One of the stronger RCTs supporting peat-based peloid therapy for musculoskeletal conditions.
