Peat Compresses

Therapies
Also known as: peat compress, peat poultice compress
Method: topical
Duration: 15–30 minutes
Frequency: As needed
Temperature: Warm or room temperature
Preparation: Cloth soaked in peat extract solution, applied to affected area

Peat compresses are cloth or gauze pads soaked in peat extract solution, applied to skin or scalp. They provide a gentler alternative to paste applications, suitable for sensitive or inflamed skin where direct paste contact may be too intense.

Method

Cloth is soaked in warm peat extract solution and applied to the treatment area for 15–30 minutes. Can be reapplied or refreshed during the session. The lower concentration compared to paste applications makes compresses suitable for sensitive skin, facial areas, and initial treatment of acute inflammation.

Advantages

Gentler than paste applications. No cleanup of paste residue. Can be applied to areas where paste is impractical (scalp through hair, skin folds). Suitable for sensitive or severely inflamed skin where paste contact might irritate. Good introduction for patients new to peat therapy.
